From maple sugar tubing to Tyvek…to old bottles… to car parts…
Such things can be turned into art!

As part of the River’s Song Project, The Great Falls Discovery Center will host an art exhibition of work created from trash collected in the Connecticut River Watershed. Work selected for the exhibit integrates trash into a range of media including sculpture, painting, and textile art. Participating artist include Nina Rossi, Carolyn Bessette, Candace Bradbury-Carlin , Phyllis Labanowski, Jane Beatrice Wegscheider, Laura Iveson , Allen Fowler, Beryl Salinger Schmitt, Jane R. Cohen, Jose L. Santos and Barbara Milot.

There will be an artists’ reception during the River’s Song Celebration, Saturday, May 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Activities about the river are planned throughout downtown Turners Falls from 11am to 10pm and will include art making, a parade, Native American ceremony, drumming, a walking tour, spoken word and musical performances, and a water dance sound & light show.

The River’s Song Project is collaboration between Turners Falls RiverCulture, the UMass Asian Arts and Culture Program, The UMASS Departments of Landscape Architecture, the Connecticut River Watershed Council, the Great Falls Discovery Center, and the Nolumbeka Project.
