ArtWeek in Montague and the Turners Falls Cultural District

ArtWeek Boston, an annual award-winning festival featuring hundreds of unique and creative hands-on cultural experiences, has expanding statewide. The Town of Montague is enthusiastically participating in ArtWeek, with a full schedule of performances, exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations from April 27, 28, 29.

Art & Soul: Rumi Public Reading and Workshop

Friday: Rumi’s poetry set to music for movement by Su Eaton and Jeff Olmsted from 7-9pm.
Saturday workshop from 9:30am-3:30pm.

The Gill-Montague Education Fund presents a rare New England appearance by tribute artist Jim Curry at its Annual Gala, a fundraiser for the GMEF, which awards grants for enrichment programs to teachers.

Artists Judy Cummings, Lydia Grey, Louise Minks and Kathy Litchfield are four of the 15 working artists at this cooperative gallery. They will demonstrate their fine craft and share stories.

Decoding the Lyrics of Early African American Song
Montague Center Library, 17 Center Street, 1-2pm
Sing Along. Learn how enslaved people secretly communicated with one another through song lyrics, and the early African, Caribbean, and African-American roots of the banjo. Michael Nix and Gloria Mattlock will teach songs in the time honored call and response oral tradition. Lyrics will be explained in the context of the struggle for freedom. Sponsored by RiverCulture. Your Exquisite Corpse: Interactive Exhibit
Great Falls Discovery Center, 11am-3:30pm
A collaborative and interactive exhibit based on the Surrealist game of Exquisite Corpse. Figure paintings of the Head/Shoulders and the Legs/Feet are executed by Nina Rossi and Jeff Wrench.
Short texts and poems will accompany each figure, also created by multiple writers. Visitors will have opportunities to interact with the event, including a chance to have the artists
and writers use them as inspiration.

An un-conference designed to bring artists/makers together from all different genres (theater, dance, music, fine art, photography, film etc.) to share ideas, make connections and create an
