Montague Cultural Council

MONTAGUE CULTURAL COUNCIL

Originally started in 1980 under the Arts Lottery Council, the Mass Cultural Council Local Cultural Council program is the largest grassroots funding network in the nation, enriching the cultural life of all cities and towns in Massachusetts. Led by volunteers, Local Cultural Councils award $7.5 million dollars every year, supporting 7,300 cultural programs that include everything from field trips to lectures, festivals, and dance performances.

Members of the Montague Cultural Council are appointed by the Selectboard for 3-year terms. Their primary task is to distribute funds allocated through the Local Cultural Council Program for projects in the five villages of Montague.

The Montague Cultural Council weighs many factors into their decision making. This year they will prioritize projects based in Montague, projects about the history of Montague, projects that demonstrate community support and planning, projects that focus on cultural diversity, equity and inclusion, inclusion, and projects that are science-based. Applicants living with a disability or those that identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Latinx, refugee or immigrant will be given additional consideration.
